Our Views: Jindal should set an example

The word “audacity,” a word closely linked with President Barack Obama because he wrote “The Audacity of Hope,” is a word that also came to mind when we heard Gov. Bobby Jindal criticize the president for spending too much time campaigning — and not enough time governing.

Give the governor credit. His ability to say such things with a straight face suggests audacity of the first rank, as more than one observer noted after Jindal offered his remarks to a national audience.

Jindal, who as a sitting governor spent nearly one day of every four last year out of state, mostly doing campaign work for the GOP, would seem an unlikely person to take the president to task for spending too much time on politics.

Nevertheless, Jindal used a recent appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to do just that.

“My advice to the president: It’s time to stop campaigning. ... Roll up your sleeves and do the hard work of governing,” Jindal told host David Gregory.

We think Louisiana and the nation would be well-served if elected officials at all levels of government spent less time in campaign mode.

It’s time for Jindal, one of the worst offenders in this regard, to lead by example.

Audacity would be The Advocate trying to convince readers it was not as guilty of being a left leaning tool like the rest of the MSM. Is it true they serve the Koolaid in the lobby?

Good opinion piece. Thanks for calling Jindal out. One way to look at it is that the more time Jindal spends out of state making a fool of himself, the less time he is here running the state into a ditch. One thing Jindal may want to reconsider, and that is bringing back all those mental health services he's been cutting. The way he goes around thinking he is making inroads toward one day residing in the White House, the more he shows just how delusional he is. He could use some help. He has NO CHANCE of being president on his own merits, for one thing. Another is that the political winds are shifting. Republicans will be out of favor on the national level for at least a generation. Timing is everything, little Piyush.

It seems, judging from the LazyBoy libertarians' comments here, that Guv Stoopid Parti's education initiatives are achieving their desired effect. Here's some more juice and cookies, children, supplied at double the price by private contractors, of course. Time to get on your regressively sales-taxed mats for nap time; don't worry, Guv Stoopid will wake you up when he needs you to. Nighty-night.

All you need to know about Bob is his relationship with Sheldon G. Adelson. You remember, when Bob went to Vegas on our dollar to get in line with the other aspiring republicans to kiss his ring? That time when they all had "individual "closed door" meetings. Put the line below in your Google, and read the top link then you will know what went on behind the door. I knew I could count on some of the responses here to give me my daily dose of laughter. There's rarely any original thought expressed herein. Nonetheless, the same Jindal-esque sock puppets and bobbleheads making the same tired comments week after week is at least a known quantity, and a supremely laughable one.

Another lame attack on Jindal by the Advocate. 8point6, it's always that time of the month for The Advocate. agagent, our progressive friends sound like they want you to shut up. You must be doing something right or they would ignore you. Next they'll be calling you racist. The Advocate doesn't even try to be fair and balanced. They don't even try to hold Obama accountable.

How about this for an ad hominem post: Wow, this criticism of Jindal has all my "regressive, so-called conservative" friends in an uproar. Maybe I'll just save this for copying and pasting, that will even spare me the limited, simple mental process it takes to remember it.

@Agagent: your constant criticism of President Obama could possibly have merit if you were to do a side-by-side comparison of him versus previous presidents and evaluate the results. I know you won't do it though - that's why your comments are typically devoid of any meaningful content. Just a constant stream of generalities and imbecilities. Enough already!

Obama used Air Force One for many campaign and fund raising trips. One enterprising critic calculated that Obama has cost the taxpayers billions of dollars using taxpayer funds for campaigning and fund-raising trips; extravagant vacations for himself, his family, and their entourage; and lavish personal events at the white house . . . All in a time of financial crisis for the federal government. Maybe the Advocate could give equal time to criticism of Obama as it spends criticizing Jindal if it wanted to be non-partisan.

15) Comment by agagent - 03/03/2013

Obama thinks he is above the gritty details of governing and he is a detached, aloof figurehead. Obama never submits proposal but gives speeches, very often contradicts himself. Obama's budget did not even get Democrats; votes. On the other hand Jindal has been intimately involved in the legislative process, and he has been very effective in passing his legislative proposals. Then the Advocate criticized Jindal for controlling the legislature. The Advocate cannot have it both ways. We know the Advocate will not acknowledge how effective Jindal has been with the legislature because the Advocate opposes his agenda. The Advocate will not criticize Obama because they agree with his radical agenda.

And, as if that wasn't a big enough whopper, how about this, reported by C. B. Forgotston as contained in an e-mail from Governor Jindal to his friends: “The folks in Washington could take a page out of our playbook in Louisiana and make government live within its means instead of taking money out of the private sector economy to grow government.”?

are ya'll going to change your name to the democrat advocate? jindal, whether you agree or disagree with his objectives, runs the state then politics. obama is destroying the nation with his slash and burn politics. he doesn't care who or what gets harmed as long as he gets his way. his idea of compromise is do it my way or else. thank God we have a republican house to hold him in some small manner in check.

19) Comment by postscript56 - 03/03/2013

All politicians are guilty of hypocrisy, but Jindal seems especially good at it. Or maybe it's that Jindal knows people like ScotB will never hold him accountable.

The truth hurts. The Little General Jindal is a joke. He will be ripped to shreds as the truth comes out.
