Letter: Editorial right on about LSU search

Your editorial on “Open top search,” Feb. 24 could not be timelier and better written.

Our “legal arguments” in support of secretive searches are dubious in nature and disingenuous in intent. LSU’s rise and fall may be attributed to subterranean politics that permeate its entire body, perpetuating a shameful culture of systemic mediocrity.

“The stakes for LSU could not be higher in its search for a new leader.” Your assessment is honestly accurate. The “inevitable fact of university life” is not a capricious selection process masquerading as defensive secrecy, but transparency in support of public accountability. It’s applicable to all social organizations, let alone public universities.
