Letter: Jindal cuts make ‘stupid’ more likely

I have to laugh. Ever since President Barack Obama’s re-election, pundits (both right and left) have praised Gov. Bobby Jindal for pointing out the obvious: that Republicans need to stop being the “stupid party.”

Yet at the same time, the good governor seems hell-bent on growing yet another crop of the same. His huge slices for funding of higher education makes it even less likely that the next generation can climb out of the “stupid” hole.

What is happening to education under this governor — from K through college — is abysmal. I believe Superintendent John White said that the “ineffective” teachers are the ones leaving the system. Nonsense. I know dozens of fine teachers.

I know few happy ones.

Louisiana, let’s wake up and stand up to hypocrisy. We can start by demanding the restoration of funding to Louisiana’s public colleges and universities.
