Letter: It’s the mayor who should be fired

Police Chief Dewayne White is a man full of human compassion. I wept as I listened to him respond to the accusations brought on by Mayor-President Kip Holden.

I cried even more as I listened to Chief White state how he prayed with a man after responding to a call. After walking up to this guy’s door and knocking, he was let in, and he sat and talked with this guy. Yes, that’s right, Chief White prayed. God bless his heart. Chief White will be reinstated, God’s got his back.

I noticed several times Chief White and the young lady that was making her statement had to call Mayor Holden’s name several times to get his attention. Mayor Holden was turning a deaf ear to them, just like he has turned a deaf ear to the many, many, many problems going on within the Baton Rouge Police Department, as well as turning a deaf ear to the people. Mayor-President Holden should be fired.

Also, you can't "fire" a mayor. You can recall him. Good luck with that.

A few observations: I find it totally disrespectful that the mayor wasnt paying attention, as if he was above those talking. Also, that poor excuse for a CAO that couldn't run a circle K is actually making personnel decisions for the BRPD? Then he doesn't say a word at the hearing, just sits there like a child being scorned by his parents. I am not surprised that Holden and his right hand man have no idea how to follow procedure when it comes to an employee separation. Holden is the mayor, not the police chief. If he wants to have his hand in day to day matters at the PD he needs to seek the job of chief. Lastly, how are we going to trust Holden's next appointment for Chief? The last guy that he appointed, whom he has been praising since that appointment, is all of a sudden "The master of deception". Makes you wonder if Holden has a clue when it comes to character judgment. He's already proven that he can't appoint someone good enough for the job in his eyes. You have to give him credit though, he keeps the downtown economy booming by making personal donations to all of the bars on 3rd street. Keep up the good work, Holden.

He prayed this one time, so he must be good at his job. Very compelling. Why not leave Baton Rouge matters to those who live here? I'm sure Donaldsonville has its own problems that you might actually have the power to help with.
