Letter: Police endangered parade-goers

I felt compelled to share my concerns regarding the police incident that followed the Spanish Town Parade. I was two to three blocks from the site of the fight and witnessed many marked and unmarked police vehicles flying to the scene on Florida Boulevard — with bystanders in the middle of the streets.

It scared the daylights out of me to see so many in law enforcement risk the safety of others.

I do realize one of the victims was one of their own; however, with so many responders, most were unable to get close to the site of the incident. I feel those responding should have been more cautious with the number of drinking parade-goers still hanging out in the streets. A potential catastrophe was a realistic possibility.

Rockynoggin: Next time you get your butt in a spot and need help call someone other than a cop....see how fast and how much help responds to your plea.

@attila and @tradewinns do you really think the "blue code" protects average Joe? The parade is important to our city for economic reasons and the cops should be aware of that - that's how they get paid. However, they are at war with the very people they have sworn to serve and protect. BRPD thinks they are elite and above the rest of us.

Angie, don't you know? Cops are not required to follow the same laws they're paid to enforce.

how many people "standig in the street" were hit by the police cars? i didn't read about any so they must have been going as fast as possible using due care. i hope all these "cops are bad" people are just as responsive when a crime occurs and they know something they need to tell the cops about to keep their neighborhood safe.

The first reports were of an "officer down". You want to get a policeman's attention; that is all it takes...and rightly so....and as far as the drunks standing in the street...my parents taught me not to play in the street...especially if I had been drinking.

Police go ape when one of their own gets in trouble. I wonder how many police cars would have shown up if it were you or me who got punched in the face. Certainly not 22! When police were threatened in California, they shot two women just because those women were driving a truck that resembled the truck owned by the suspect. In these cases, the police were more of a hazard to the public than the criminals.
