Letter: People made Super Bowl super

On behalf of the Business Council of New Orleans and the River Region, we congratulate all in our community who had a hand in delivering the best Super Bowl ever. Thanks to the Host Committee, co-chaired by Mary Matalin and James Carville and led by Jay Cicero of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, a masterfully detailed plan was designed and executed to perfection. The Saints’ organizational leadership — Tom and Gayle Benson, Rita Benson LeBlanc and Dennis Lauscha — served as gracious hosts to the NFL team owners and the NFL staff.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and his administration did an outstanding job preparing our city, supporting all critical logistics from start to finish. The New Orleans Police Department, led by Superintendent Ronal Serpas and augmented by law enforcement agencies from around the state, was superlative with crowd control and traffic management.

Local business shined, providing products and services while introducing visitors to our home. Additionally, our heartfelt thanks goes to the sponsors whose generosity made Super Bowl “New Orleans style” possible.

Of particular note was the effort of more than 7,000 volunteers who welcomed, informed and guided our guests with the effusive warmth and charm for which New Orleanians are famous.

And we would be remiss if we did not thank the more than 5,000 media representatives who were here, capturing the breadth of stories of our city. Our renaissance was portrayed with enthusiasm and pride. Yes, the real winner of Super Bowl XVVII was, indeed, the city of New Orleans.

We offer our deepest appreciation to all who made Super Bowl XLVII a major success. Bring on 2018!
