Letter: March for Life badly reported

I protest!

I wish to exercise my First-Amendment right to note this most-vigorous protest to your incredibly slanted and biased report on the March for Life on Saturday, Jan. 12, which I had the great honor of attending and witnessing and could hardly recognize the event you reported compared to what I saw with my own eyes and experienced with my own emotions.

Your reporter stated that the crowd was about 1,500 people. He failed to note, inadvertently I am sure, that Archbishop Gregory Aymond estimated the crowd at 3,000, at a minimum; and after more years than I care to remember, or admit, of reading your reliably and liberally slanted reportage, using that term in its loosest possible connotation, I’ll go with an archbishop of the church every single time. That statement is especially true when buttressed by what one saw with one’s own eyes by being there for the entire three hours, from Old State Capitol to the Capitol steps.

Your reporter gave quite a bit of space (almost 15 percent by my own word count) to the counterprotest of the pro-abortion group, which must have been a protest only your reporter saw, as I never saw a sign of anything like what was described in the article. However, I cannot help but note, for the information of the spokeswoman for the pro-abortion group, that what I attended was the polar opposite of a “pro-war, anti-environment, anti-equality” march, as her sign apparently suggested. This was a protest against a decision of the U.S. Supreme Court 40 years ago, by virtue of which 55 million American lives have been destroyed, and had nothing whatsoever to do with war or the environment, although it certainly did have everything to do with equality, the meaning of which the supporters of abortion might readily see if they would just think for one moment.

It is truly a shame that one not personally attending Saturday’s March for Life and only getting their information from your “report” would not have known about so many moving and touching moments and sights which took place in the course of the march, and the various presentations, such as the one which was clearly the most poignant of all for me, the indescribably courageous women of Silent No More, who stood on the steps facing the crowd with large signs proclaiming “I regret my abortion.”

I hope this brief account will give the public a little more insight into what actually happened at the outpouring of love and prayer and devotion for the sanctity of life Saturday here in Baton Rouge.

@being.. - I AM WITH YOU!! No matter what they call it, it's MURDER!! Call it legal, it's MURDER!! Either ALL INNOCENT life - that would include babies in the womb, for the likes of DMJ et all, is precious or none of it is!!

No DMJ you did not miss anything. It's just the same old Phil making up stuff.

Ok...did I miss something? Now the government is "facilitating" abortions and "streamlining" the abortion process? Was this on Fox and Friends this morning or something? Where'd you guys hear of this nonsense?

One reason I am against abortion is because the government seems to have streamlined the entire abortion process. Don't even suggest that getting pregnant is not the right thing to do, but just make it very easy to get rid of the "problem" if you happen to get the sexually transmitted disease called a baby? Maybe we also need to discuss the opinion and rights of the unborn child in this abortion process. Does the unborn child get to say whether he/she wants to live? Maybe we should delay the abortion process until the child is a few years old and just let the child decide if he/she wants to continue living? Who decides when human life begins and when the soul (if you are religious) enters a human body? Can humans really make that decision based on a very limited scientific knowledge of what that thing we call "life" really is? Sorry, I did not actually attend the march so do not know the answer about the news coverage.

attendance count debated. reminds me of the "million man march" count years ago.

Mr. George is a lawyer and he doesn't even know the meaning of the First Amendment? It is no wonder why nobody takes him or his looney anti-downtown library friends seriously.

"Abortion is legal and always will be in a civilized country." The word "civilized" is debatable.

Abortion = Killing Babies

DMJ's last statement is right. A woman, her doctor, and her God ought to decide such things. Government has no place and certainly should not be providing such services. It's disgusting to think of bureaucrats facilitating abortions.

Mr. George told it straight, and I thank him for that while I applaud The Advocate for publishing his letter. One point that he made is quite important, i.e. the one about the women who regretted their decision to have an abortion. Although I wish now that she had not, I myself received a private visit years ago from a young lady at about 9:00PM one evening; to my amazement she just blurted out that she'd had an abortion at age 16 and now deeply regretted it and that it was constantly on her mind, wondering about the baby boy or girl, and what she'd done. I sent her to our priest and I hope that she's found peace, but who can say? Such a final and horrible step can only bury itself in the subconscious to torment the soul.

Boo hoo, someone didn't get the coverage they wanted because of the big, bad ever-present Liberal Media. Cry me a river, George. If it's any consolation, abortion is legal and always will be in a civilized country. Sorry. Maybe the reason these women regret their abortion is because you yahoos call them murderers all the time. This so-called "man of god" Archbishop shames them into thinking their soul is in danger so they fall into the comforting arms of the Catholic Church, which then carefully remove money from their purses. What a crock. Maybe the story didn't get much coverage because people just don't care anymore? Just a thought... Is all life sacred? Is abortion moral? It's not for you, for me, or for some guy in an ornate dress and stupid hat to say. It's between the woman, the doctor and her god, if applicable. It's certainly not up to the government!

Badkitty, because they had a freedom to choose, you troll

I sure hope this "lawyer" doesn't really think he has a constitutional right to have a letter posted...

Bighug &pot, how come your mothers didn't abort you?

15) Comment by potkcalb - 18/01/2013

Agreed Bighug. Lawyer George's verbiage make up enough for the 15% and more.

I'm sure this letter makes up for the 15% fewer words in the article. Lawyer George seems to be getting quite a bit of space in today's paper to push his own religious agenda.
