Letters: Who’s smarter, senators or voters?

News flash. Our great U.S. senator, David Vitter, R-La., has made a surprising discovery. There’s an idiot (Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.) in the U.S. Senate!

What it really sounds like is two 10-year-olds arguing in the playground.

One says my storm is bigger than your storm. The natural response from an intelligent U.S. senator is “You’re an idiot.” I’m thinking this may be a euphemism.

The amazing thing is there are still people who wonder why nothing is accomplished in Congress.

The voters of these two states should be very proud for sending two such mature men to the Senate. I’m wondering who is more intelligent, these two men or the people who sent them there?

Bughug, you would read something negative into that comment. It was a mistake, he said, and he learned from it. Wow, the tolerance is overwhelming.

I remember hearing Vitter's comments during his last campaign about the hiring of prostitutes. In effect, he said he was a better man after the incident. Maybe all men should hire prostitutes in order to improve themselves. I think that what Vitter has shown is that he is really sorry about getting caught.

Bighug, It's not my fault Reid said something so sour and hateful. It made him look like an idiot and Vitter put him in his place. It took that to get Reid to apologize, otherwise, he probably wouldn't have said a thing. He still hasn't apologized about Romney's taxes. Reid's political life has always been surrounded by scandals and Romney's wasn't. Reid is just a mean bully and gets away with it all the time. Vitter has shown that he is truly sorry to us, his wife and his family and is working hard for this state. But, you can't get over it. If Clinton would have put Reid in his place you wouldn't have said a thing. But, I suppose you have forgiven Clinton for his shenanigans.

Whatnow, are you sinless? Do you live in a glass house? Have you never made a big mistake and was sorry about it? Strange that you ask me those questions before casting your stone at Reid.

Plenty of idiocy and childishness to go around. However, Reid, Pelosi, Sheila Jackson Lee, & etc. dems seem to be able to display it generously without media consequence.

Well put, Cliff. These guys are supposed to conduct themselves with dignity.

politicians are not stupid, in fact usually they are the opposite. think about it, how long could you continue working at a high paid position full of benefits and perks, and not do anything? if i could have one of those jobs i would never retire either! so that leaves the other guys as the "not so bright" winners.

Bighug, are you sinless? Do you live in a glass house? Have you never made a big mistake and was sorry about it? It's okay when Reid apologizes, but not Vitter? Reid is implicated right now in a scandal, but that's okay. He's a democrat. http://www.ijreview.com/2013/01/29571-senator-harry-reid-implicated-in-600000-bribery-scandal/

I agree Sen Reid should never had made that statement - which he later corrected. Bighug, how correct you are - Sen Vitter should never throw rocks - Gene Mills and Woody Jenkins (our family values leaders of the bible thumpers) get giddy at the mention of Vitter's name.

They could be a little more civil, but what worries me is that our leaders are doing such a poor job. There has never been a worse bunch in congress in my lifetime. As for calling names, someone who has been known to hire prostitutes and use his influence to avoid justice for a lawbreaker shouldn't throw stones.

Well, he is an idiot and needed calling out on his idiotic statement. Maybe it will teach him some decorum. He can't take it but he certainly can dish it out. Boo Hoo! But, I suppose, Mr. Johnson, you believe that nothing should have been said about his comment. Just let an old mean spirited man say anything he wants without reprisals. That is what makes someone a bully. At least Vitter stood up to the bully on the playground. Dislike Vitter if you want, but he was right to put Reid in his place.
