Our Views: A big bust in the bowl

A picture of a rather forlorn No. 8 sitting on the turf summed up the Chick-fil-A Bowl for the LSU Tigers, who blew a lead to lose 25-24 to Tigers from Clemson University.

With quarterback Zach Mettenberger all too often on the ground, and the overworked LSU defense squad forced to take the field for far too long, the list of misfortunes goes on and on.

It was not the greatest New Year’s Eve for Tiger fans. The recriminations will be many.

Still, a 10-2 regular season that included major victories is nothing to dismiss, even as we pore over statistics and coaching decisions that will be in instant-replay mode in the mind’s eye of fans for a long time.

The wrong coach has been getting these raises. Coach Chavis has saved Miles' butt a lot more than once in his tenure. W/o coach Chavis there would have been quite a few more L's in the loss columns. Les should be sharing those raises with coach Chavis.

Before long LSU will be begging Nick to come back and save them.

Y'all better get used to it..as long as Les Miles is the head coach this is going to become the norm. I submit that next season LSU will be no better than this year....and probably not as good...if that is what you can call them. LSU has just left the top of the hill and is on the way to the bottom...give ole Les another couple of years, and few million more, and I guarantee it.

I think to have a winning team next year, LSU needs to give the coach another large raise and make him the new $6 million dollar man. That should solve all problems in BR too.

It has not reached the dictionary yet, but "to deserve" has devolved in common parlance to be synonymous with "to want" or "to be entitled to," having nothing to do with effort or worth.

I couldn't believe my hears while watching QB Mettenberger while being interviewed on the local news. He talked softly with his head hung low like a scolded hound giving his opinion on why the Tigers lost. His humble pie attitude almost was pulled off until til the last sentence where he stated that he wanted to come back next season and have the season that "I Deserve". Not that the team deserved or the fans deserved but I deserve. He is not a team player him and his daddy want him to be a star. Well it is hard to be a star when you are sitting on your backside surrounded by opponents.

How dare you point to poor play on the field without even acknowledging the horrific offensive coaching job on the sidelines? I'm forced to assume the Manships are far too concerned about the possibility of falling out of favor with the athletic administration to dare question Messrs. Alleva and Miles. All that free food in the suite isn't going to eat itself.
