Our Views: Champagne toast for Tiger season

The LSU Tigers mark New Year’s Eve the way their fans in the state and the nation are used to, with a highly competitive bowl appearance Monday.

The two Tiger teams on the field, Clemson University being the other, will doubtless provide a tremendous game for the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. While Tiger fans of the Louisiana variety would have rather seen their team in other venues, this is a great match-up and one that we can look forward to.

That this year has been marked with too much off-the-field drama for the LSU Tigers is well-known, and has an impact in the bowl game with the absence of suspended punter Brad Wing. But this is a 10-2 team, despite the big one that got away against Alabama, ranked in the Top Ten in the nation and playing in a high-profile bowl game on New Year’s Eve.

Not at all a bad year for LSU football, and a victory would cap it off perfectly.

We congratulate Coach Les Miles and his team for their season, and wish them the best in the Georgia Dome.

Average team this year. The Advocate is still trying to help LSU sell tickets to a game in Atlanta few care about.

As long as Les Miles is around if LSU actually makes it to a BCS bowl again, it will be more luck that ability on the part of Miles. We had two chances to send him back to Michigan, and an excellent opportunity to send him to Arkansas. All three times our clueless AD's gave him substantial pay raises to keep him here. Perhaps we need to start looking for an AD that has some vision. The best thing that could happen to LSU football is for Les Miles to go back to selling cars.

This bowl is a dud, which is why LSU can't sell nearly half of its ticket allocation. The sad truth is that the Tigers were a big disappointment tis year. They just barely beat Ole Miss and Arkansas.
