Letter: Wisdom found in ancient stories

A week early, on the date Dec. 14, the world for a group of mothers, fathers, sisters or bothers and alike forever changed. In a huge way a part of their world ended — 12-14-12 not 12-21-12. Let’s investigate: Let us ponder the possibilities that the Mayans were not that far off the mark, it was only a week — the revelation of the Mayan prediction. What transpired in small-time America, Connecticut, to be exact, Friday morning, Dec. 14, 2012, was the end of their calendar at least here on Earth.

However, that being said, there is another ancient story that has been passed down through the ages: Pandora’s box. When she opened the box, great evils escaped, and mankind suffered greatly. The box unleashed wickedness upon the Earth. What was left in the box was hope. Hummmm, words of wisdom. I came across another piece of wisdom — “For by Grace are ye saved through faith.” Ephesians 2:8.

Works for me!

Big hug, Even Hitler passes that test to get into heaven. Care to verify that in the Bible?

It seems that the promise of forgiveness is often embraced as a license to sin

Too many people assume they will receive eternal bliss because they state their belief in salvation through grace. And to answer your comment, gary, the bible does support such belief. Even Hitler passes that test to get into heaven. I am not one of those believers, but I have studied the Bible.

Do not run with pointed sticks or rocks. Do not call wolf till you see wolf. Do not drink from pool with dead animals around, and the list goes on.

Wow! You can't be serious - I'm dumbfounded, you trying to tie this mass murder of 28 people into something out of the bible? Pandora's box? Maybe some of our believers and bible readers can get me straight on this.
