Our Views: For holidays, safety is key Our Views: For holidays, safety is key Advocate story Dec. 05, 2012 Comments Deck the halls with miles of electric cord, but make darn sure that what lights up are the bulbs, not the house. That’s the warning, though a bit dramatized on our part, from Entergy New Orleans, which sent out a useful holiday reminder to its customers. The decorations of the holidays, including and perhaps especially a Christmas tree, can cause trouble if not properly maintained during the season. Keeping a live tree watered is particularly important, but avoiding frayed electric cords with the lighting, or cords without bulbs in them, are also important holiday safety tips. According to the National Fire Protection Association, Christmas tree fires are not all that common — but when they occur, they can light up the house, and not in a good way. We hope that everyone will enjoy the season safely this year.
