Letter: Shame on you, Advocate

Your sports editor should be fired — period — and the guy who wrote the embarrassing article about Russell Shepard must either be a Tulane or Alabama graduate who hates LSU. Get him out of there. We don’t need the negativity.

Neither Mr. Rabalais nor The Advocate are public relation firms for the LSU Athletic Department. If you want perpetually positive journalism, go to lsusports.net. The article was not an attack on either Shepard or Pettaway but rather an indictment on the inexact science of evaluations of high school players by recruiting services. Mr. Shepard's comments indicate he is not bothered in the least by the perceived unfulfilled expectations placed on him by others and also show he has an excellent grasp on his college major of choice, communications.

Mean spirited? Hurtful? It's strange how some players are singled out and draw such harsh criticism.

You are right, but that was the 2nd worst job of writing I've ever seen. The worst was also in the Advocate. It was about "the little man in the dark suit". A very bigoted and personal attack on coach Ben Jobe.
