Letter: Progressives seek total control

Progressives have been changing this country slowly for about 100 years. Now, they are on steroids.

For 50 years, they have indoctrinated our children. There is no sense of responsibility, nor the realization of the consequences of one’s actions. The election is over, and the uninformed, misinformed, and just plain gullible have spoken — with a bit of fraud here and there.

It was not a”rout” as Michael Polito has stated. There was less than a 4 percent difference. Polito seems to be giddy over the prospect of what Obamacare is all about. Will he be as happy when he gets the bill for a minimum of 18 new taxes that start in January 2013? Does he know that millions of small businesses will close, and many of larger ones will either close or lay off many workers in order to comply with the mandates and fines or other expenses associated with Obamacare? It has already started.

Does he know that seniors will lose much of their medical benefits because of this law? Yes, because of the thinking of people like Polito, we all will pay the price of this year’s elections for many years. America will survive and come back — but not in my lifetime.

Lastly, Obamacare is not at all about insuring the uninsured, it is about the government controlling every aspect of our lives.

Don't look a "progressive" in the eyes or you will fall under his spell. You are getting sleepy....very sleepy. You will do as I command. This is just laughable. "Indoctrination" begins in the home, by the way. Those pesky college professors, for example, just make students think outside the box. If the students' independent thinking leads them to conclusions that fall outside their original indoctrination (by family and church), then that's a good thing. People should be thinkers, not sheep.

" vagarious ramblings" could refer to the 2700 pages of legal/lawyer speak also known as the HCA . has anyone else out there tried to read it and come away confused ? or is that the intent ?

4) Comment by HRoark - 22/11/2012

Hey wait a minute, I like to watch 10 minutes of Fox News just before the Daily Show and Colbert....its like the old days when you got to watch a cartoon before the movie.

5) Comment by Scrooge - 21/11/2012

Whatchange: to paraphrase nimby?'s vagarious ramblings, why did you bother you want entertainment go watch Fox News. What change indeed.

6) Comment by nimby? - 21/11/2012

me thinks some liberals watch way too much Fox news . they seem to know all the secret buzz words , code talk and catch phrases better than most republicans ; ya thinks they are monitoring it 24/7 ? nah , that would be paranoia . question ; will the other major media outlets continue to give this administration a free pass ? will there be more misunderstandings needed to be explained later ? more gaffes excused , ignored ?

7) Comment by Whatchange - 21/11/2012

Y'all are soooo boring, the same old people with the same old responses, y'all really need to get out and get a life. By the way, the sky isn't falling, President Obama won't walk on water, and the world won't end on 12/21/2012.

8) Comment by gman70726 - 21/11/2012

Obama fiddled while the US burned. Slowly we crumble from within.

9) Comment by Scrooge - 21/11/2012

Since the authoritarian craving psyche cannot accept anomalies in its world view, the creation of a scapegoat to shift blame is necessary. Insecurity is probably key here, notice the obsession with guns and the demonization of those who are different. Tragically ironical, this is the same mentality which gave us National Socialism, al quaida, etc The "liberty and freedom" "our way of life" etc. banalities evidently refer to a self-serving need for constancy in an inconstant world. However, the inconstant but inexorable advance of time may make the Neanderthals extinct, the cracks are appearing in the edifice.

Thanks Tea_slayer- that was a really good article.

DMJ, There is an interesting article on Salon confirming your assertion that "people only watch Fox to hear the news they want to hear, to validate what they already think (or suspected)" --- http://www.salon.com/2012/04/10/foxs_misinformation_effect/

12) Comment by Tea_Slayer - 21/11/2012

Five more studies can be found here -- http://www.desmogblog.com/fox-news-effect-few-references One from Stanford University, one from the Kaiser family Foundation, one from Ohio State University, and two from Program on International Policy Attitudes. I guess they are all biased, right?

13) Comment by DMJ - 21/11/2012

Fox News is garbage. Anyone that gets their news from there isn't interested in reality. In Fox World, global warming isn't real, Christianity is under attack, the Black Panthers are on the rise, and Obama is taking away your freedoms. Bottom line: people only watch Fox to hear the news they want to hear, to validate what they already think (or suspected). It's absurd. Just look at this letter- completely removed from reality. I'll bet everything I own this lady watches Fox News to get her information. By the way, MSNBC is garbage as well...but like you said, Atilla, no one watches it, right?

14) Comment by Tea_Slayer - 21/11/2012

Study 1 - Unbiased but Fox responded with “"Considering FDU's undergraduate school is ranked as one of the worst in the country, we suggest the school invest in improving its weak academic program instead of spending money on frivolous polling – their student body does not deserve to be so ill-informed." Of course, it was study, not a poll. A “news” organization should know the difference ---http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9288158/Fox-News-viewers-worst-informed-study-finds.html

rgeraldwallace@cox.net, unless you came over recently on the boat, you might want to have your genetics tested, then you could provide the living proof of your stereotypes at your church.

16) Comment by Whatnow - 21/11/2012

Who does those studies? Are there any un-biased studies anymore?

17) Comment by Old Man Kensey - 21/11/2012

Attila, humor this early in the morning? Or did you really mean that? Because that is just laughable. There is a reason study after study shows that fox viewers (I won't call it news) are the least educated about the world and current events.

18) Comment by Attila - 21/11/2012

Why all of the vile comments hurled at people who may, or may not, watch Fox news. I mean, it is the most watched news channel in the country. Fox has more viewers that all of the other so called "news" networks put together. CNN and MSNBC have some of the most vile and radical hosts of cable nets, not to mention ALL of the broadcast networks, including PBS, are every bit and in some cases more radical than Fox is or ever was. If you deny that it is because you have succumbed to the same malady that you accuse Fox viewers of suffering.

19) Comment by Spudaroonski - 21/11/2012

No need to get your panties in a bunch Noralee. The scary black man in the white house isn't coming for you or your children. Obama isn't a progressive or even close to being a liberal. Oh if only we had a real progressive /liberal opposition party in this country things would be so much better for the middle class and the poor but the truth is Obama is nothing but a corporatist. He's just a tool for wall street just like Mitt and all the rest. Dems and Repubs. They're just different sides of the same coin. I have to ask though. You really voted for a guy who owns a dancing horse named Trafalca?

20) Comment by DMJ - 21/11/2012

Gee, a homemaker from Central paranoid about Obama? Shocker. People have been telling Mrs. Patton that she's is paranoid for years. ...but they've been telling her in morse code.

Yeah that 100 year progressive agenda that gave women the right to vote, Noralee, homemaker in central where black helicopters have been sighted with increasing frequency btw you might go to the library (is there one in Central or is that too progressive?) and read an actual history book about the last 100 years in America, might get a much more accurate clue than from advertising driven right wing media banalities

unevahno; "We have a black president, potentially one the greatest presidents in our history". he may be one of the greatest BLACK presidents in our history, but he falls far, far short of "greatest" in any other catagory. he has done absolutely nothing to advance our society either at home or abroad. now he does have four more years to make a difference so he could end up as one of our greatest, but we won't know until those four are over.

26) Comment by Whatnow - 20/11/2012

It's a national company and their policies are across the board in all of their subsidiaries, OMK. I already checked that. And, I guess Harry Reid must really be a Republican, huh?

27) Comment by Springer98 - 20/11/2012

It never ceases to amaze me when someone states that a person that has a different view on politics, "despises" someone else because of his skin color. The last time I looked, Bobby Jindal was just about the same skin color as Barack Obama!! In fact Jindal may be a little darker than Obama. This old worn out statement is way out of date! Time to come up with a new one.....

28) Comment by Old Man Kensey - 20/11/2012

Actually, we seek a two party system where both parties work towards a common goal. It has been a long time since the Republicans have done anything but obstruct. >>>>>>>whatnow, our governor has not allowed Obamacare into the state. Your complaint is not caused by that.

29) Comment by chem - 20/11/2012

Actually, Noralee, Polito never used the word "rout." That was the headline by the Advocate editor. The letter to which you refer says "resounding." 51% and 332 electoral votes is pretty resounding, especially when one adds in the other "progressive" gains.

30) Comment by unevahno - 20/11/2012

Noralee, "millions" of businesses will not close. Seniors will not lose benefits. Somehow, the fact that under Romney/Ryan, Medicare would have ceased to exist is fine with you. This was a part of their platform. Enough of the fox shadowy racist talking points that simply don't make sense. We know that you and "agagent" have to say things that don't make sense in order to mask the simple truth behind your misery. We have a black president, potentially one the greatest presidents in our history. But just as you despised Dr. M. L. King while he lived because of his color, you will also hate President Obama. Good luck with being on the wrong and losing side of history again. (beginning with the civil war)

Wow, I'm so excited today. I just got my company retirement medical options and guess what? Every option is now more expensive, higher deductibles, higher co-pay and higher prescription deductibles. Oh, and they dropped my eye and dental coverage. I guess they are pushing people to get on Obamacare in the future. This never happened before. I've been on the same insurance since retirement. So, it's time to purchase a supplemental program which will also cost me an arm and a leg. I just have to wonder if all this would have happened if Obamacare wasn't out there as an option. I guess I'm lucky that my retirement benefits haven't been totally dropped now. This just pushes me to use my Medicare and pay for more options. Yep, Obamacare is the answer to help ALL Americans without coverage? Now we get to see what it does to the rest of us. I see total control in the future.

32) Comment by phil - 20/11/2012

I dislike labels in general and feel that the term "progressive" is often misused. I think you actually can be a progressive fiscal conservative that wants progress but not progress at the expense of poor, middle-class and rich taxpayers. What happened to the private sector spending money for progress for private ventures? What I DO see is a trend in the USA to destroy our morals and turn this country into a socialistic godless country. You can call it what you want to. If everyone wants something for free then someone has to be left to pay. You can tax the high earners to death and still not have enough money to fix that $16 trillion national debt. I think we have a big problem in the USA now. There is no such thing as free because someone always has to pay.

33) Comment by twinkie1cat - 20/11/2012

Aagent, turn off FOX ok, you and Miss Noralee. Take a break from the lies and garbage. It's infotainment, y'all. FOX is the infotainment wing of the Teaparty. Watch a news channel for a week, like CNN or MSNBC. Even a few days would help. Get over it! The American people have faith in Obama. He is doing what he said he would do and the people LIKE OBAMACARE. What we don't like is greedy Republicans who try to create a theocracy in America and regulate every aspect of our social lives and tell us there is something wrong with us if we get food stamps. One more thing. Maybe you have never been without health insurance. It is a scary prospect to have an illness that is not an emergency and know that your only option is sitting for 10 hours at Earl K. Long and it's 30 miles away and you only have a gallon of gas in your car! Maybe you have never had a friend get the Shingles and you treat it yourself with Calamine lotion and leftover pain pills and he is still suffering after a month. Maybe you have never sent your refill for penicillin to a friend in another state because he has a tooth abscess and cannot afford to go to the dentist. Plus the public hospital's business office disrespected him so he won't go back. I have been through these scenarios It is very scary. America needs universal health coverage so people can go to the doctor and get regular primary care when they need to go. I am extremely grateful that I have a Medicare Advantage program now, because I know how not having it feels. And as for the issue of higher unemployment among women and blacks. The unemployment rates are ALWAYS higher for women, blacks, people over 40, and people with disabilities. When the jobs go, the less connected go first. Why do you think Jindal is bashing teachers? They are mostly women. That's why.

agagent at it again...” He increased black unemployment to above 14%”. Black unemployment is always higher that overall unemployment ---http://www.dol.gov/_sec/media/reports/blacklaborforce/images/1.jpg //// “Under him women have lost more jobs than men.” There is a reason for that. The jobs that women typically have are retail, part time and government. More women hold those types of jobs than men. --- http://www.factcheck.org/2012/04/obamas-war-on-women/ //// “Millions of seniors could lose their Medicaid Advantage plans” Absolutely false --- http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/12/politics/fact-check-lose-healthcare/index.html //// “You must buy the government-prescribed health insurance so many will lose their cheaper health insurance policies.” Huh? “Some companies will lay off employees or cut hours to pay the Obamacare taxes” No, the employers are cutting hours so they don’t have to give their employees health insurance benefits. --- http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2012/11/olive-garden-red-lobster-to-cut-hours-instead-of-giving-health-insurance-2497668.html

that no good dog obama and 30 million more insured on obamacare madness

38) Comment by agagent - 20/11/2012

Obama cares: He increased black unemployment to above 14%. Under him women have lost more jobs than men. Millions of seniors could lose their Medicaid Advantage plans. Millions could lose health insurance from their employer. Biden said the middle class have been buried. College students are deeper in debt, and the student loan bubble is about $1 trillion. College graduates cannot find jobs. A record number depend on food stamps. A larger percentage is not in the labor force. You must buy the government-prescribed health insurance so many will lose their cheaper health insurance policies. Some companies will lay off employees or cut hours to pay the Obamacare taxes. Now we have 4 more years of Obama “caring.”
