Letter: The election is over. Get over it!

To the many readers/writers of the Advocate for and against Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, or vise versa:

Face it, Obama is your (our) president and until the entire nation can come to grips with that fact and stop looking at color or fault-finding, the nation will always be in the situation it is in. So many people have the mindset of Democrat or Republican that they can’t even think straight. Obama can only do what he sees fit as president, with a Congress and nation that is willing to work toward the common good for all.

People are hating and don’t know why they are hating. I personally am so tired of hearing “Obama this, and Obama that.” Obama is human. Take a second and think of the huge task before not only him, but any president. Like it or not, Obama is your president, and the nation should be praying to God Almighty that he makes sound decisions for the United States of America and the world.

The Advocate should try writing some beneficial articles. Articles like the ones in the Nov. 11 issue by Dr. Brad Vincent entitled “Get Screened for Lung Cancer,” or the one by James Jenkins Jr., “Commission Wasting Ground Water.”

Spend more time being sympathetic toward your fellow human beings, and put more energy into making the world a better place. If you don’t know the facts, don’t go on what others are saying.

Thanks gofigger-NearBarbarian – And I promise that I will be a cynic, a member of the conspiracy theorist group, I will question sincerity of posters and their sanity and I will be wrong at times, out of line, rude, will come off as a crank and all the above. Everyone keep posting . God Bless the USA and for my atheist friends may the Nothing embrace us.

"The election is over. Get over it!" This title only partially deals with reality. The complete thought for all political parties would be: "The election is over. Figure out what could be improved upon and begin preparing the way to doing better/even better in the next election." The ending of one election only initiates preparations for the next election.

Ms. Booker and Chucky are simply appealing to the best in America and Americans. Those of us on comment boards tend to be cynics, conspiracy theorists, cranks, and charlatans; therefore, we tend to assume the worst about everyone--questioning their sincerity, patriotism, sanity, ad infinitum. In a vibrant democracy, we commentators might serve a purpose of some kind (probably just a venting function), but we only do so in the context of a democratic republic that is founded on the Enlightenment and Neo-Classical hope that we will perpetually strive toward optimism, community, excellence, truth, and justice. If those objectives sound corny or quaint, it says more about us than the objectives. All Ms. Booker, Chucky, and others in "middle America" are asking is that we all remember that we are Americans first and that our efforts, whatever they are, should move us to a "more perfect union."

Chucky - I appreciate your service to our community. I would gladly help my fellow man, even to the point of self-sacrifice, but not because of his position. I do not hold the same regard, as you do, to our public servants in office. They have long forgotten the reason they hold these positions.

@gofigger – for 23 years every day I went to work I strapped a gun to my side and a badge on my shirt. If I would risk my life for you and yours then know I would for a President no matter his popularity, skin color, or party affiliation. I became brainwashed after spending 4 years as EMT ambulance back in the 70's and went into law-enforcement as preventive medicine ( stop the DWI before they kill, intervene in domestic dispute before the injury, etc.) Blessed Be.

Chucky - You sound like you've been brain-washed. I can think of a lot of reasons to put my life on the line, but for any president past or present would not even cross my mind. It's just a job they ask for, not by force. They get up and put their pants on one leg at a time, just like everyone else.

It is laughable to hear get over it from those who bashed Bush during his 8 years in office and for 4 years after he left office. We will be hearing more Bush bashing for another 4 years from the “get over it” crowd.

Believe it or not would give my life for the President of the United States no matter who he is . I respect the office that much and my Country. Have never been an all or nothing guy Bush is not endeared to me but nether is Obama yet it is Obama who is in office and has the ability to use the bully pulpit and other powers to better the USA in a way I would like, not Bush. Thus you will probably hear more criticism from me about Obama than you would about Bush, a has been.

The election is over, yes, but the deficit continues to rise. Also, are we still using the "it was the guy in office for the last 4 years" cliche or is that played out?

When the President stops lying and is willing to work toward the common good for ALL people, I will get over it. And I will not shut up when I see something that I don't agree with. I contact my Congressmen and that is my right. They represent me and to become complacent again would be the end of this country. The anger is not necessarily hate. Most Progressives think that to disagree is automatic hate. America has been complacent for too long and are tired of the corruption in Washington and want to be heard. That is our duty and right as citizens. We don't have to shut up and take it.

There are other places where you must not speal ill of the dear leader.

“Use of the "Big Lie." In Obamaland, all "news" is positive. According to the country's adoring media, Obamaland has never suffered low income, high unemployment, fewer in the workforce, poverty, and growing welfare and food stamps, and the deficits and debt do not matter. If it did it is Bush’s fault anyway. Followers would willingly sacrifice themselves for their great leader. The official Obamaland Central News Agency said that leader is so beloved that they would save his golf clubs before they rescued their own family. --mostly borrowed from CPJ’s description of the most censored nations

Lovely letter. Nice job Myran. I especially like your last sentence. I don't see how someone can conclude that Myran voted for Obama from the letter. Her point is that we need to get past the negativity of the election and unite as a nation.

I do have to wonder if the writer would feel the same way if Romney had won the election.

NImby, I'm with you on that. I'll just wait and see what happens next. I'm hoping for some good, because I'm tired of picking my jaw off of the floor.

Gay rights, end of the drug war, immigration reform, tax reform, entitlement reform, full implementation of health care reform, climate change legislation..... hopefully, those things are in pandora's box. I'd be happy with any two, really.

the election is over , now we'll see what's in the pandora box ....

I agree that freedom of speech is essential, agagent, but there's a difference between saying "I didn't vote for the president and now I'm aggravated that he's not trying to implement a policy I wanted implemented," and "I'm seceding from the nation!" People just aren't being rational about it. I'm not saying that should be forced to shut up; I'm saying that ought to realize on their own how insane they sound.

19) Comment by agagent - 17/11/2012

I think I prefer freedom of speech even if it annoys Myran. I know how she feels though having to see Jindal-bashing and constant attacks on conservatives all of the time in all the newspapers. I guess Myran does not see those as hate.

"Spend more time being sympathetic toward your fellow human beings, and put more energy into making the world a better place. If you don’t know the facts, don’t go on what others are saying." Wise words. Unfortunately, people are emotionally invested in hatred for Barack Obama. To admit that he might actually be doing a good job would challenge their worldview and this is scary for some people. Still...I'm hopeful and I think we all should be.

Myran, thanks for the letter. Bighug and spqr why so nasty so early?

22) Comment by spqr - 17/11/2012

Oh, Myran, people are well aware of their socialist president and their so-called "hate". Get out of the house and get a full-time job beginning at 5 am and watch that check each year shrink while you worry about a layoff. I think I will pray for the under-25 crowd and those who do not work who found it fashionable to vote for Obama and, by age 40, will be receiving their small paychecks from Beijing corporations.

23) Comment by Bighug - 17/11/2012

"If you don’t know the facts, don’t go on what others are saying."? Do you advocate praying to God based on fact, or based on what others say?
