Letter: One LSU means better LSU

As a member of the Flagship Coalition, I applaud the LSU Board of Supervisors for taking the bold step of merging the positions of president and chancellor into a single position, the beginning of a larger transition to create one LSU.

LSU, like colleges and universities across the country, is under siege. Shrinking state budgets are squeezing funding. Competition for the best students, the best professors and the best administrators has never been fiercer. Students are facing bigger debts and tougher job markets when they graduate.

And the cost of our No. 1 priority — providing a quality education and university experience for students — just continues to rise.

One LSU is about staying competitive. It is about giving our graduates the best education and the most-valuable degree they can earn. It is about attracting and keeping the best students, the best faculty and the best administrators. It is about making LSU second to none.
