Letter: Inflation often hidden

Inflation numbers? Lots of words in your paper in the last few days about our government telling us how low inflation has been.

I guess they don’t measure package size in the grocery store. Recently we have purchased hot dogs and cookies. Guess what? The price didn’t increase, but only eight dogs instead of 10, 10 cookies instead of 12. Of course we lost the “pound” of coffee many years ago.

This sure seems to this “dummy” greater than cost of living increase according to the “guvernment” fiqures!

Governments inflate money in order to tax people without overtly raising taxes, on the theory that the populace will usually not figure it out. What else is new?

Well Wallop, you are not an idiot but your fears are all for nothing! Mrs. Obama's war on obesity has cleverly been packaged with hidden inflation so that we are all eating less for more money. The more money we have to pay for food, lodging, and clothing the more we feel for the poor third world nations that they are really worried about.

Not long ago I was a regular eater of McDonald's breakfast burritos. One day I noticed that they'd got smaller. I mentioned it to the guy next to me and he said he'd noticed it too. They think we're idiots. But then, I guess that's understandable.
