Letters: Zachary a class act for foundation aid
October 08, 2012
Friday night (Sept. 21) Zachary won a high school football game and the respect of the Dutchtown Griffin football community. ZHS gave the proceeds of a first half and second half 50/50 raffle and jambalaya sales on both side stands to the Living4Burke Foundation.
With no winner from the first half confirmed, very polite and persevering ZHS student council members canvassed the Dutchtown crowd till they found a winner of the 50/50 raffle. Repeated announcements throughout the game highlighted support from Zachary. Mayor David Amrhein should be proud of his town and Coach Neil Weiner of his program for such a giving spirit.
The goal of the Living4Burke Foundation has been to create awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest in student athletes, prevention by helping to provide access to heart screenings and to work hard so that no other family has to go through this type of tragedy. Please visit the website at www.living4burke.org or send us an email to living4burke@gmail.com.
Supporting this cause has been very personal for Coach Saia and our football staff.
Griffin football lost Burke Cobb this summer to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Dutchtown appreciates the support of our neighbors in Zachary, a class act.
