Letters: Romney has to stand his ground

Mitt Romney is quoted as saying the there are some 47 percent of Americans either depend on government, or are trying to get on some sort of public assistance.

He seems to be worried that he will lose the support of some of these people.

Why he is worried about the welfare portion of this nation is beyond my comprehension. He already has to know that President Barack Obama is, without doubt, the “food-stamp” champion! That ground is already taken!

The 53 percent who are not and do not wish to be welfare recipients simply want the government to get out of the way so they can earn their own living without being regulated and taxed out of business.

Those are the people who may want to vote for Romney.

If there are enough of them willing to vote for liberty, in favor of largesse, then this nation can survive. If not, then it is time to cash in our worthless money and call it a day for the great American dream!

This nation has gone on for over 200 years with the Constitution that has been the basis for the hope of the world. Now we are hearing that it is a “Living Constitution,” and the government currently in power is doing everything it can to “kill” it. If the majority of the people agree, then we have come to the stage when the majority of the people are prepared to sell their birthright for the proverbial “mess of pottage,” and the greatest experiment in the history of mankind is over. If not, Romney has to grow a spine and stand his ground!
