Unification of “LSU’s top job” (The Advocate, Sept. 15, page 1A) is a small albeit important step to revamp a dysfunctional system. I share the learned governor’s optimism: We do have “a real opportunity to move LSU forward pretty significantly.”
Alas, this will not be accomplished so long as the “silos” of vested interests and “turf battles” in a vertical structure continue to reinforce a capriciously hierarchized system of governance. Gov. Bobby Jindal and the distinguished Board of Supervisors need to invent a horizontal, publicly accountable “scenario” to replace a decadent order with nearly feudal trappings.
