Letters: Baton Rouge welcoming more tourists

This summer, Baton Rouge and surrounding areas experienced some of the highest visitation numbers on record. With another successful Bayou Country Superfest, an incredible United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, the return of the Mississippi riverboats and the International Planetarium Conference, visitors from all over the world have enjoyed our food, music, and legendary Southern hospitality.

Let us continue that momentum into what is sure to be an exciting fall football season for the LSU Tigers and Southern Jaguars. Our research indicates that visitors to Baton Rouge recognize our locals as very friendly and courteous. Your continued hospitality to our guests both inside and outside the stadium never goes unnoticed. Remember, they are our opponents for one night, but may be our visitors for a lifetime!

Go Jags and Geaux Tigers!

Yes, and let's quit playing the "pay em to play" game of subsidizing everyone who wants to come to BR and have fun with out local poor people's tax funds. Are you on that list for free concert tickets? Maybe everyone in BR should be able to go to the concert etc for free since the event is subsidized with tax funds. How about the people in charge of these tax-funded events actually let out the financial information on exactly where all of the money went to and how much real profit was made. How about the fact that some of that hotel- motel tax money apparently goes back into the visitor's bureau. I know when I am being played.

In my work capacity, I advise others (who aren't visiting stranded relatives) not to take a single step into Louisiana or the Deep South in general. Visitors should see the best that the United States has to offer, like California or the very least NYC.
