Letters: Property valuations can be checked
The East Baton Rouge Parish assessor posts property valuation online at http://www.ebrpa.org. The assessor’s valuation of anyone’s property can be searched by address, owner’s name, property number or subdivision. Citizens can review not only their assessment but that of others as well.
I encourage my fellow citizens to avail themselves of this valuable information source. Review your assessment and that of those with comparable property around you and then you decide how well the assessor is doing his job to assess property fairly and equitably. The results of my search showed some glaring inequities. An inquiry with the assessor’s office revealed that at least two of the 23 homes on one street in my neighborhood had not been reassessed at all due to a “computer glitch.”
Every citizen should pay his/her fair share, but that can’t happen if the assessor does not value property fairly and equitably.
