Letter: Include all in revamp of state budget

I think most everyone would agree that revamping the current state employee retirement situation should be explored. But include everyone in the same bag of marbles. Anyone collecting a check from the state of Louisiana should have the same plan. That’s from the governor on down. If the legislators have the same skin in the game as the rank and file then just maybe the final answer would be fair to all involved.

Jerry, then that means politicians would have to be fair and pretend they are common folk. Not going to happen.

everyone should be on the social security system (or whatever they change it to). that way we all participate in the same plan and there'll not be any "shortfall" for the taxpayer to worry about.

I think you would find that “most everyone” does not agree that the current state employee retirement situation should be explored, simply because those of us that have taken the time to look at LASERS’ assets and liabilities know that LASERS is solvent and stable. The entire unfunded liabilities crisis is unadulterated monkey poo, ginned up by the Governor as an excuse to gut LASERS. However, I do agree that if the Governor, each State Legislator and State Senator was in the same boat as Louisiana State employees, they would whistle another tune.
