Letters: Downtown litter problem partly self-created

I joined with other volunteers downtown to assist Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful in cleaning up litter in order to put our best foot forward to visitors attending the International Planetary Symposium in our city. I spent over two hours scraping off little paper stickers that were stuck on walls, parking meters, railings and sidewalks in front of the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, which was the site of the conference.

Ironically, these stickers all came from the museum and from the USS Kidd. They are given to visitors when they enter the facilities, and my guess is that kids stick them on places where they see other stickers stuck as they wait outside for their buses to return from their school outing.

It seems like an unsightly litter problem for LASM, the Kidd and downtown Baton Rouge would be solved if these two entities went to ink stamps instead of paper stickers.
