Letters: Warrick Dunn an example to us all

One thing for sure, Warrick Dunn is a “go getter,” and he gives back to this community and in other areas throughout the United States of America. What a warm gesture(s), concerns and compassion he has shown for so many years. He has made remarkable strides in making someone happy and giving in a kind and warm way to let others know he is sincere and he cares. As it was in 1993, when his mother, Betty Smothers, a police officer, was shot during an armed robbery. What a useless and senseless loss of life, leaving behind her children/family/friends with her memory as a loving and kind person.

Dunn has continued to survive, reinforcing positive ways from the time he and his family were saddened by the loss of a loved one. This community suffered the loss as well. I just want to say Dunn is a very loving young man with high morals and values that surely his mother, family, friends and this community are very proud of. With his aspirations and accomplishments, he is truly a distinctive hero, and his sincere input and endeavors have touched many and will always be embedded in the lives and hearts of so many people. Dunn has really made a difference and impact that prayerfully will touch our children/youth all over this nation. And they will envision him as a mentor and role model and will follow his footsteps in becoming productive, successful individuals.

as a "red man" I'm going to reach out to my people first , perhaps if I were a well known local figure the media might make a big deal out of it , but I'm not , and they didn't . "better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt" , Abraham Lincoln ...

I think it's great for someone to reach out to the community, just reach out to all of the community . How much scorn would a white man or organization go through if they helped whites only. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you look at news broadcasts of people being helped count the number of white people in line. Black people have networks of knowing when and what is being given away. Not that I want anything for free but the first I know about it is seeing blacks in line at a give away program on TV. To quote YOUR great President: "You cannot help men permanently, by doing for them, what they should be doing for themselves" President Abraham Lincoln

CBCS , I enjoy some of your sarcasm , but to belittle a man reaching out to the community is un-christian , period .

@CBCS: go away. You're just making a bigger fool of yourself.

to rgeraldwallace If Dunn wants to spend his money on Black women, that's alright with me. His motivation to do so is his own; after all, who knows what's in a man's heart? I guess this makes up for Holden spending his money on white women right?

Perhaps we may one day get to the point where making racial distinctions will simply be unnecessary. The current course society seems to be set on doesn't look very promising, however I remain hopeful.

@Chucky: Agreed.

@gvm-Yes many groups Nation Of Islam , Christian Identity, LA Raza, Church of Israel, Storm Front,Panthers and it goes on and on. You can list many more, my point was that Mr. Dunn is doing what is right without any hate and should be applauded. We need good black men like him to show a presence in the community and not hide or flee from Baton Rouge's plight of black on black killing.

@Chucky - you forgot to include: Council of Conservative Citizens (Gordon Baum), European-American Unity and Rights Organization (David Duke), American Renaissance/New Century Foundation (Jared Taylor), American Third Position (Kevin McDonald, William Daniel Johnson) and some would also suggest the so-called Tea Party Patriots. All of these groups, in some form or fashion, have adopted ideologies that seek to "divide the races" as you observed.

Blacks helping blacks is exactly what is needed now. It is the  National Association for the Advancement of Colored People , Al Sharpton , Jesse Jackson , and others of that mind-set that divide the races. Mr. Dunn is doing what he can for his 'community' and in such away that should not offend anyone. If a white neighborhood had a high crime rate I would hope some white person from that 'community' would step in and help.

So much for the alleged post-racial period in American society that supposedly followed the election of President Obama.

Oh, what a tangled web all of the emotion surrounding race in this country has become. Some people can't get past it, some revel in it, some are ambivalent, and some are tired of hearing about it. If Dunn wants to spend his money on Black women, that's alright with me. His motivation to do so is his own; after all, who knows what's in a man's heart? Just him and the mirror man.

@CBCS: are you one of those white women?

17) Comment by gvm - 04/08/2012

@CBCS: your ignorance is awe inspiring. What, exactly, is racist about helping women in need? A word of advice: people, like you, with 3rd grade educations and/or paralyzed cerebrums should not advertise that fact in public.

2 gvm ....does Facts bother you? Give me a reason that he does not give house to Caucasians? Wouldn't his work be just as good? Just stick to the facts, why doesn't he? Because he is a racist and you are as well.

19) Comment by gvm - 04/08/2012

Leave it to CBCS to interject race into any and every comment. Can't you just acknowledge the good work of Mr. Dunn without the sarcasm? If the situation were reversed would you make the same plea for black women?

Hey Warren, there are white women that could use a free house as well.
