Our Views: Tiger Band gets honor
July 22, 2012
We’re happy that LSU’s Tiger Marching Band has been included in a Top 10 list of the “The Best Marching Bands for 2011-2012,” compiled by The Huffington Post.
“Marching bands are awesome,” Huffington Post writer Anna Susman wrote in the article. “This invaluable part of the college football experience gets the crowd amped up, and generates competitive spirit between the two schools battling for supremacy. The following colleges have nurtured marching bands that always impress, always excite and always showcase their full talent.”
While the list does not give specific rankings for each school, the Tiger Marching Band is displayed as the third band in a slideshow presentation on the Huffington Post’s website. The LSU Tiger Marching Band, which includes the Golden Girls dance line and Colorguard, has a closed membership of 325 students. The band was recognized nationally for its outstanding achievements by the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 2002, receiving the prestigious Sudler Trophy.
With football season just around the corner, LSU fans will soon get new opportunities to see the Tiger Marching Band in action. We’re sure the band will live up to the expectations raised by The Huffington Post.
