Letters: USS PYRO Shipmates Remembered
The 2012 USS Pyro reunion was held recently at the Holiday Inn South in Baton Rouge. The vessel arrived at Southern Recycling in New Orleans recently and in about two weeks will be in tear-down/scrap mode.
The USS Pyro Association would like to thank Baton Rouge and the Tourism Bureau for the welcome and hospitality we received. We visited the World War II Museum in New Orleans and a memorial service was held onboard the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge for members who passed away since our last reunion.
The USS Pyro (AE-24) was home-based in Concord, Calif., and made numerous western Pacific cruises and set many records while under way. Information on the ship, and a crew roster, can be found by visiting http://www.usspyro.com.
Any Pyro shipmates wanting to join the association can contact membership chairman Kimberly Box or treasurer Bill Hogan by visiting the Pyro website. Next year’s reunion will be in Seattle, Wash.
