Our Views: LSU golfer in the bigs

When John Peterson tied for 55th in the Mayakoba Golf Classic — in Mexico in February, we’d never heard of it either — it was the best finish of the year for the former LSU golfer living the journeyman life of the young professional.

But that was before his top-10 finish at the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco made him a bona fide pro golfer. Big time.

He will get invitations to next year’s Open and the Masters tournament at Augusta National.

The icing on the cake: Peterson tied with his mentor David Toms, the former LSU All-American.

We congratulate Peterson and wish him well on a career that has moved well beyond the Mayakoba Classic.
