Letters: Efforts helped keep jobs in state

As the owner of Sanchez Resources, a Sanchez Oil and Gas affiliate company based in Houston, I write to thank U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia, and Secretary of Natural Resources Scott Angelle for their assistance in keeping our job-creating operations in Louisiana. When the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries altered historic precedence and expedited the Catahoula Lake drawdown, our company faced a nearly impossible task of completing our drilling operations in the lake. However, with the prompt assistance of Congressman Landry and Secretary Angelle, we were able to find a common-sense solution with the LDWF. Thanks to our agreement with the LDWF, Sanchez Resources has the potential to generate over $5 million in royalties for the state of Louisiana and create jobs for her people. As a company which spent approximately $25 million in Louisiana in the last year — we applaud Landry, Angelle and the LDWF for their efforts to make Louisiana a pro-business environment. And as a company focused on the acquisition and development of oil and natural gas producing properties — Sanchez Resources looks forward to creating more jobs, revenues, and opportunities for the state.

Thats right, their "job-creating operations in Louisiana" on their terms. Otherwise, they'll go drill for oi and gas in Idaho.

I WISH the environmentalists had the federal government on their side. If only that were true. Instead, we have a Democratic president bragging about how high oil and gas production is and how he's going to allow the keystone pipeline after all. With Democrats like these....who needs Republicans?

New technology is making energy production more feasible in others parts of the country, but the country is still heavily dependent on refining in the gulf region.

Louisiana has had many advantages in energy, natural recourses, water transportation, etc. but has not taken full advantage of its positives. In some cases the federal government has stepped in to equalize those advantages. For many years the federal government controlled natural gas prices so Louisiana lost that advantage in energy. It is not in the interest of businesses to destroy the place where they can make a profit. The next best place for their business is usually second best.

Really want to help Louisiana? Give back the subsidies and don't threaten to pick up shop if you can't make slightly higher windfall profits. Oil and Gas must think we're all stupid. They'll go where the oil and gas is and where people value their environment less than money. This is Louisiana. Oil and Gas aren't going anywhere; Louisiana is where the oil and gas is. The least they could do is pay for the pollution they cause and get taxed like everyone else. I have a question to Mr. Sanchez: if drilling for oil and gas in Louisiana is so great, how come we're one of the poorest states? Where is the money going? Ah....that's right....to Houston. Great.
