Letter: Reader says vote no on CATS tax
Before the last election for the taxpayers to bailout CATS, I wrote to The Advocate about the waste incurred by CATS using the oversized diese-burning, 40-to-50-passenger buses that never have over a small amount of people aboard at any given time. I suggested that in order to save money why not go to the smaller vans that hold 10 to 15 passengers and are much cheaper to operate and maintain.
Last week in Zachary I observed one of the large buses with one person aboard. Later in the Baton Rouge area I followed one with only three people aboard for an extended amount of time.
CATS could care less about saving the taxpayers money as nothing has changed. The liberal mayor supports this tax as he has never seen a tax he didn’t love.
According to The Advocate, the amount paid by the taxpayer will range from $14 per month for a home valued at $156,000 up to who knows, according to the cost of your home.
Wise up taxpayer! CATS will never have enough of your money because they don’t practice fiscal restraint. Times are difficult now with the cost of fuel, food and everything else increasing. The $14 plus that you will have to pay monthly will certainly benefit you more than CATS. Whatever you do, please go vote on April 21! CATS is hoping for a low voter turnout as this usually means passage. I will work hard to defeat this tax and hope you will also. I say again, please vote as it is your money at stake for something you will probably never use!
