Mississippi man dies in wreck on I-59
A 77-year-old man died Saturday night after he drove his truck off Interstate 59 just north of Pearl River and crashed into a fence and a tree, State Police said.
John McKean, 77, of Picayune, Miss., was traveling north shortly before 8 p.m. on I-59 in a 1998 Ford pickup when, for unknown reasons, his truck began drifting left about three miles north of the La. 1090 exit, said Sgt. Nick Manale, a State Police spokesman.
McKean over-corrected to the right, causing the truck to rotate clockwise and run off the road.
The truck struck a fence, overturned and crashed into a tree before stopping more than 100 feet away from the road, Manale said.
McKean, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, Manale said.
Troop L investigators do not suspect impairment as a cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.
