A 27-year-old man ran into City Park Avenue on Friday night where he was hit and killed by an NOPD cruiser.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, ran into traffic in the 600 block of City Park Avenue about 8:30 p.m., New Orleans Police Department Officer Frank B. Robertson III said in a news release.
Witnesses told police they saw the man run into the south lane of traffic, where he was struck by the cruiser. Investigators don’t know why the man ran into traffic, the release says.
The police officer driving the cruiser was not injured. No charges have been filed, but the investigation continues. A toxicology test will be performed.
The New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section and Public Integrity Bureau are investigating the case.
