Residents in and around Pearl River could be getting a break on their property insurance bills after the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana notified St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 that its rating had improved.
The PIAL notified District 11 officials Friday that the rating had gone from a four to a three on PIAL’s ten-point scale.
A rating of one is the highest possible rating and a ten is the lowest.
Fire Districts are graded, at a minimum, every five years, said Blaine Rabe, of PIAL. During the evaluation, the department’s communications, equipment and water supply are all tested, he said.
The change in rating will officially take place Oct. 7, according to a news release from Fire District No. 11.
A letter detailing the change may be picked up from Station 112 at 64279 La. 2081 in Pearl River. That letter should be forwarded to one’s insurance company so that any reduction in an insurance rate can be applied.
District Chief Johnny Leos credited the district’s firefighters for making the improvement possible.
