Police say man, 26,
shot in 7th Ward

Police are searching for several men who shot a 26-year-old man in the 7th Ward on Thursday afternoon.

New Orleans police said the victim reported he was standing in the 2400 block of Aubry Street at 1:47 p.m. when several men approached him and began shooting. The victim received a single gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital.

Police did not release any information on a motive or provide descriptions of the gunmen.

Lakeview drugstore robbed at knifepoint

An unidentified man who wielded a knife made off with more than $80 worth of merchandise from a Lakeview drugstore Thursday.

New Orleans police reported that the incident happened at 1:21 p.m. in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue. The man walked into the drugstore with a knife, stole merchandise and fled he store. Police released no other details.

Man, 19, accused
of shooting home

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man they claim unloaded several rounds from a rifle into his neighbor’s home while she was there.

Robert Taylor was booked with aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of a weapon, according to an arrest report. Deputies arrested Taylor at his home on Darlene Avenue in Metairie after his neighbor reported he peppered her home with bullets.

The woman said she was entering her living room when several bullets flew through the windows and walls, according to the report. Police said the .22-caliber rounds were fired from Taylor’s home. No one was injured in the incident.

Officials seize crack from Slidell house

A multi-jurisdictional task force in St. Tammany Parish arrested five people Wednesday after authorities said a search of a home found 552 grams of crack cocaine.

Investigators arrested Winford Mcfarland Sr., 52; Winford Mcfarland Jr., 32; Grover Mcfarland, 55; Tronjia Miller, 32; and Tommy Holloway, 56, after a search of home at 37384 Hillcrest St. in Slidell.

Investigators from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and Mandeville and Slidell police departments began to keep tabs on the home after they received reports of narcotics activity there, according to a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office news release.

All of the suspects were booked with a variety of narcotics-related charges, including possession, distribution and manufacturing of controlled substances.

Algiers barber shop robbed at gunpoint

Police are looking for a man who walked into an Algiers barber shop looking for more than a haircut Thursday.

Police said that at 1:07 p.m., they received a report that a man walked into the business in the 3100 block of Gen. Meyer Avenue carrying a gun. The robber ordered everyone in the business on the ground then stole cash from them.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

Boothville traffic stop ends in drug arrest

A decision by a Plaquemine Parish sheriff’s deputy to pull over a pickup for a lane violation resulted in the discovery of more than an ounce of cocaine, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Sgt. David McLean seized about 33.6 grams of crack cocaine and 2.8 grams of heroin after a traffic stop and short foot pursuit in the 40000 block of La. 23 about midnight Wednesday, according to the office’s news release. McLean arrested Myron Turner, 32, of Port Sulphur, and Timothy Cheramie, no age available, of Buras, in the incident.
