Families can use the OneApp to apply to all Recovery School District and direct-run Orleans Parish School Board schools. The School Board charter schools do not participate. The application allows families to list their top eight choices for schools, after which a computer algorithm works to match families to their preferences, taking into account geography and siblings. Notification letters will be mailed the week of April 15. Applications will be accepted online until midnight or can be submitted in person at any participating school or Family Resource Centers. The centers are at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School at 4617 Mirabeau Ave., Lawrence D. Crocker Arts and Technology School at 2300 General Taylor St., L.B. Landry High School at 1200 L.B. Landry Ave. and at the School Board offices at 3520 General De Gaulle Drive, Suite 1050. All centers are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year the RSD processed 25,157 applications. This year, with the addition of board direct-run schools and other improvements, approximately 35,000 applications are expected. Last year 84.2 percent of student applicants entering kindergarten and ninth grade were matched to one of their top three school choices. The OneApp can be found at participating schools, public libraries and online at www.enrollnola.org. Guides on public schools can be found at http://neworleansparentsguide.org/ or http://www.LASchoolFinder.com. “We are excited to give parents this opportunity to explore all of their school options in one place,” RSD Superintendent Patrick Dobard said in a February news release. “OneApp is a revolutionary approach to an otherwise fragmented enrollment process. With the improvements we’ve made over the last year and the momentum fueling family engagement in the OneApp process, I’m optimistic other forms of parent participation throughout the city will grow.” A OneApp “Wrap party” will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Crocker. There will be a second and third application period for families who missed deadlines or who moved to the city after the initial deadline. The second application period will begin April 29 with a May 17 deadline. Families will be notified the week of June 3. The third period will begin on June 10 with a June 21 deadline and notifications sent the week of July 8.
