An Old Jefferson mobile home was destroyed Friday morning after a dump truck crashed into the building and set it afire.

The incident was reported in the 3300 block of River Road around 8:45 a.m. Trooper Melissa Matey, of the Louisiana State Police, said a dump truck struck a pickup truck that had pulled too far into an intersection at River Road and Maine Street. The driver of the truck lost control of his vehicle, she said, and struck a gas line, crashing into a mobile home. The gas line ignited, and the truck and trailer then caught on fire, Matey said.

None of the residents of the home were injured in the fire, although a dog was killed. Media reports said that a woman in the home was rescued by a neighbor.

The driver of pickup will be cited for pulling too far into the street, State Police said. Smoke from the blaze could be seen as far away as Gretna, and the dump truck also was severely damaged.
