Woman abducted, sexually assaulted; police seek suspect

New Orleans police searched Saturday for a man accused of picking up a 22-year-old woman on Bourbon Street and taking her to an unknown location before sexually assaulting her, a police spokesman said.

When the woman became separated from her friends about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, she flagged down what she thought was a taxi to get a ride back to her hotel, Police Department spokesman Garry Flot said in a news release.

The driver, described as a dark-skinned, clean-shaven thin black man in his late 20s with a low-cropped haircut, drove the victim to an unknown location, pulled out a handgun and sexually assaulted her, Flot said.

After the assault, the attacker dropped her off near Simon Bolivar Avenue and Calliope Street, Flot said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
