Sacred Heart students’ service trip to Nicaragua

This summer, 26 Upper School at Sacred Heart students and faculty members traveled to Chinandega, Nicaragua. While there, the group worked with Amigos for Christ, a nonprofit based in Buford, Ga.

Amigos for Christ started their work in Nicaragua in 1999 to promote rural development. The ASH students worked specifically in the area of water and sanitation, installing a clean water system in the community of La Chuscada.

The girls worked to dig more than 1,000 feet of ditches for piping that will bring clean water directly to homes in the village. The trip was a challenge for all involved, yet it provided the opportunity for new friendships, Spanish language immersion and learning experiences that will not soon be forgotten.

In addition to the service trip to Nicaragua, students in the Upper School at Sacred Heart, specifically students entering the junior year, are involved with multiple service experiences during every summer. An integral component of an Upper School education at Sacred Heart, is participating in service opportunities, both during the school year and during the summer vacation.
