Mount Carmel staffer is nun of the year

Sister Denis Rodrigue, O.Carm., was selected by the Louisiana Ladies Auxiliary Association as Nun of the Year. She will be honored at a Mass and banquet at Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Marrero on Saturday.

Rodrigue is the co-coordinator of the “Come, Lord Jesus” program at Mount Carmel Academy.

At age 15, Marie Therese Rodrigue left her high school in Thibodaux to travel to New Orleans to begin her new life as a Carmelite novitiate at the Mount Carmel Academy Motherhouse in Lakeview.

After she made her final vows in 1946, Rodrigue’s vocation as a Carmelite took her many other places to teach and administer in schools and churches around Southeast Louisiana. After Hurricane Katrina ravaged Lakeview, she returned to the newly restored motherhouse to live and work at Mount Carmel.
