For the 40th consecutive year, Family Service of Greater New Orleans, one of the city’s oldest nonprofit social service organizations, has recognized 10 people who, in the past year, generously gave time to volunteerism, civic leadership and philanthropy to benefit the common good.
Those selected will be honored Oct. 23 at Family Service of Greater New Orleans’ annual event, Ten Outstanding Persons Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony, held at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park.
The 2013 honorees are: Scott Cowen, Tulane University president; Dr. Karen DeSalvo, city of New Orleans health commissioner; Ti Martin, co-owner of Commander’s Palace; Robert Merrick, chairman and CEO of Latter & Blum; Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana; Dr. Anthony Recasner, CEO for Agenda for Children; Dottie Reese, principal, DMM & Associates, LLC; Carroll W. Suggs, former chairman and CEO of Petroleum Helicopters; Tommie Vassel, president of Global Profit Strategies, LLC; and Guy Williams, CEO of Gulf Coast Bank.
Since 1896, Family Service of Greater New Orleans has provided individual, family and group mental health counseling.
Family Service is a member of the Alliance for Children and Families and a United Way partner organization. It is also accredited by the Council on Accreditation, having met rigorous internationally recognized standards of excellence for the quality of services and the quality of management.
