Classes help siblings
in expectant families

Touro and West Jefferson Medical Center offer free sibling classes for children whose family is expecting a new baby. The classes covers such topics as what happens when mom goes to the hospital and what to expect when the baby comes home.

Cancer survivors gather for support

This survivor support group is designed for women who have completed cancer treatment and are interested in sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences with other cancer survivors. A topic specifically related to cancer survivorship is presented and discussed at each support group meeting.

Network bus offers free immunizations

The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network bus offers free shots to children who lack insurance coverage for vaccinations.

The network also maintains a computerized registry for easy record-keeping.

Tai chi and chi kung offered in City Park

Classes in tai chi and chi kung are offered every Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the NOMA Galleries. Develop physical stamina, promote relaxation, harmony and balance are achieved through stretching exercises, standing postures, repetitive movements and abdominal breath technique. Cost is $5. Seniors meet for stretching and gentle yoga at 11 a.m. Saturdays in the meeting room at the Rosa Keller Community Center, 4300 S. Broad St. The class is free.

The Blood Center of Southeast Louisiana is seeking donations of whole blood and platelets.

Short-term counseling provides assistance in coping with the initial diagnosis of a seizure disorder, temporary and chronic difficulties and stress management. Efforts are directed toward promoting the healthy functioning of people with epilepsy.
