Hair, makeup tips
for cancer patients

East Jefferson General Hospital’s Regional Cancer Center, along with the American Cancer Society, is offering a program on Monday designed especially for women.

Volunteer cosmetologists will help patients learn how to deal with appearance-related side effects. This is a free hair and makeup program for women with cancer who are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy treatment.

No men allowed.

Class is held on the fourth Monday of every other month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Dreyfous Conference Center. To register call (504) 456-5000.

Hispanic nurses group plans to meet

The National Association of Hispanic Nurses will hold its annual conference Aug. 6-9 in New Orleans at the Astor Crown Plaza in the French Quarter.

This year’s theme is “Creating the Vision, Shaping the Future.”

Mall walking group meets at Lakeside

Join the Healthy Lifestyles walking group, sponsored by East Jefferson General Hospital, at Lakeside Shopping Center’s center court from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every Thursday.

Network bus offers free immunizations

The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network bus offers free shots to children who lack insurance coverage for vaccinations.

The network also maintains a computerized registry for easy record-keeping.

The bus will be parked:

2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday at Walmart, 4810 Lapalco Blvd., Gretna.

2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday at Walgreens, Chateau at West Esplanade.

2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday at Walmart, 880 North Highway 190, Covington.

Courage Caps event to help fight cancer

Bring your hooks, needles and yarn and join Courage Caps at the West Jefferson Medical Center. Knitters help give patients the courage to fight and win their battle against cancer. Yarn donations are also welcome.

The knitting starts Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Infusion Center, 4511 Westbank Expressway.

Yoga class to be held
in Sculpture Gardens

Yoga class is held the first, second and third Saturday of every month in the Besthoff Sculpture Gardens at The New Orleans Museum of Art.

Class is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The instructor is Addy Meisenheimer of East Jefferson General Hospital Wellness Center.

Blood center needs donations in Metairie

The Blood Center of Southeast Louisiana is seeking donations of whole blood and platelets.

Short-term counseling provides assistance in coping with the initial diagnosis of a seizure disorder, temporary and chronic difficulties and stress management. Efforts are directed toward promoting the healthy functioning of people with epilepsy.
