Free health clinic offered for uninsured

People who have no health insurance are invited to call for an appointment at a free health clinic Wednesday at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Blvd., New Orleans.

The clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will see a doctor or nurse practitioner and will receive information on additional resources.

Services include kidney disease testing, mammogram referrals and HIV testing. Patients must call ahead to make an appointment.

This event is for those without insurance. Recipients of Medicare, Medicaid or Veterans Administration benefits are not eligible. Those who are taking medications should bring their medicine bottles.

Parking will be free in Convention Center parking garage. Walk-ins will be seen only as resources are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Childbirth classes beginning at Touro

Registration is being accepted for an eight-class prenatal childbirth preparation series at Touro Infirmary, focusing on natural, family-centered birth and parenting preparation.

Classes are two hours long on Monday nights, starting this Monday at 7 p.m.

During this hands-on class a range of topics will be explored and practiced. The classes stress partner involvement, birth as a natural process, knowledge of options, balancing choices, pain management and finding a balance of family life.

The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network bus offers free shots to children who lack insurance coverage for vaccinations.

The network also maintains a computerized registry for easy record-keeping.

Gentle yoga classes
held on Saturdays
