Dome lives in Harrell
Using turf taken from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after it was used for Super Bowl XLVII in February, the New Orleans Recreation Department renovated Harrell Stadium, celebrating its grand reopening on Friday.
In addition to the championship turf, there were renovations to the basketball court and installation of a new stadium scoreboard and public address system.
After the ribbon-cutting, Saints players and Mayor Mitch Landrieu helped local youngsters christen the playground with a variety of interactive games and activities, including football, basketball and track.
Chevron and the New Orleans Super Bowl XLVII Host Committee provided funding to New Orleans Recreation Development Foundation to renovate the playground in the Leonidas neighborhood that Landrieu himself played on growing up in New Orleans.
