Southern Rep, Loyola host theater camps

The Department of Theatre Arts at Loyola University New Orleans will team up with Southern Rep to host three new theater camps this summer. Registration deadline for the first camp is May 27.

The camps will take place in the Lower Depths Theater, located in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola’s main campus.

Each camp will produce a play. They are:

“Guys and Dolls Jr.” for ages 9 through 12; registration deadline is May 27. Camp is from June 3 through June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, with performances at 7 p.m. June 14 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 15.

“Sweeney Todd, School Edition” for ages 13 through 18; registration deadline is June 17. Camp dates are June 24 through July 6, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Performance are at 7 p.m. July 5 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. July 6.

“Pirates of Penzance, Jr.” for ages 9 through 18; registration deadline is July 15. Camp dates are July 22 through Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Performance dates are at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 3.

Every child who participates is also automatically cast in a play.

Tuition for each camp is $300, and parents are responsible for providing costumes and make-up.
