Harleys For Horses is an annual fundraising motorcycle run benefitting the Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center in LaPlace.

This year, the run was dedicated to the memory of St. John the Baptist Parish Deputy Brandon Neilsen who, along with Officer Jeremy Triche, lost his life in the line of duty in August.

For many years, Neilsen had helped organize the ride, and he escorted it every year. Neilsen’s parents, Steve and Wendy, and his sister Jillayne came from Forth Worth, Texas, for the event.

Ribbons in memory of the officers were sold and a raffle was held at the end of the ride to help benefit their families. Donations were also accepted.

More than 180 motorcycles and individuals participated, riding from LaPlace to Port Vincent and back for a celebration of live music, a raffle and an auction at Fatty’s Main St. Grill in LaPlace.
