Local chefs stir it up for ‘Edible Evening’ to support gardens
NEW ORLEANS — More than 30 New Orleans restaurants participated in “An Edible Evening: A Garden Party Under the Stars” to support the Edible School Yard New Orleans. The event was held at Samuel J. Green Charter School in the garden, where students learn to grow healthful foods, as well as inside the school.
Local chefs served up Chappela Duck Bolognese with housemade gnochetti pasta, Louisiana Crawfish deviled eggs, jambalaya with locally sourced ingredients, domestic farmhouse cheeses, crawfish boil soup, braised pork cheeks with dirty Louisiana jasmine rice, pickled Gulf shrimp with pickled vegetable salad, shaved Brussels sprout salad and more.
Live music for An Edible Evening was made possible by Positive Vibrations Foundation and featured Seguenon Kone and the NOCCA Jazz Ensemble.
Presqu’ile Winery provided wine.
Restaurants at the event included: Café Atchafalaya, Bacchanal, Bayona, Capdeville, Company Burger, High Hat Café, Dominica, Link Restaurant Group, Maurepas, Pizza Delicious, St. James Cheese Company and Swiss Confectionery.
Edible School Yard provides students at five FirstLine charter schools with campus gardens, serving 2,500 New Orleans youngsters in kindergarten through 12th grade.
