Chess team competes in Orlando

Sixteen members of the Stuart Hall Chess Team traveled to Orlando, Fla., recently to participate in the K-12 National Scholastic Chess Championships. The fifth-grade team finished fourth overall. This was the third year in a row that this team has finished in the top five at nationals.

Stuart Hall entered five teams in the tournament. In addition to the fifth-grade team, the second-grade team finished 10th overall, the fourth-grade team \ ninth overall and the sixth-grade team sixth overall.

Stuart Hall’s Chess Team members also performed well individually. Dhiren Brickman, 8, finished with a second- place rating class trophy, Si Holmes, 10, with a third- place rating class trophy, and John Duncan, 11, with a third-place rating class trophy. Max Holmes, 11, tied for 15th overall in the fifth-grade section.
