Cancer Crusaders was founded in 1976 by Lynda Buring Mahana and incorporated in 1978 to raise funds for cancer research in the New Orleans area.

Proceeds raised by this nonprofit, all-volunteer group are donated annually to the two major medical schools in New Orleans — LSU and Tulane University — for cancer research.

Net profits for Cancer Crusaders as of Oct. 31 are $197,638.29.

The group hopes to reach its goal of raising $200,000 by the end of 2012.
