Saints QB Brees sits out practice again; Jenkins returns

After missing last Friday night’s preseason opener at St. Louis, Saints quarterback Drew Brees on Sunday did not dress out for his fifth straight day of training camp practice.

Brees strained an oblique on Aug. 1. Coach Sean Payton has said Brees is day-to-day as a precaution and was feeling better as the visit to St. Louis neared.

Since 2011, Brees leads the NFL in passing yards (10,339) and has the second-most touchdown throws (82).

Back after opening training camp on the physically unable to perform list is nose tackle John Jenkins (pec). Others returning after missing practices and the St. Louis game are left guard Ben Grubbs, wide receiver Andy Tanner and cornerback Terrence Frederick.

More players out Sunday are wide receiver Kenny Stills, running back Pierre Thomas, cornerback Champ Bailey, cornerback Rod Sweeting, fullback Erik Lorig, right guard Jahri Evans, tackle Ty Nsekhe, tight end Je’Ron Hamm and linebacker Victor Butler. Stills, Thomas, Evans, Lorig, Hamm, Nsekhe and Butler all missed the St. Louis game.

The Saints return to New Orleans for their next preseason game -- versus Tennessee this upcoming Friday.
